Google has just updated its browser with new features. However, some of them are not yet available on Windows, even after upgrading to Chrome 69. In particular, adding a new tab page displays a page with the same design as in version 68 when it should be different (you can click on the images below to enlarge them).
- To activate the new design, type chrome://flags in the browser’s search bar, and then type New Tab Page in the settings search box. Click on the drop-down list to the right of the setting Enable using the Google local NTP and choose Enabled from the list.
- Scroll down and repeat for New Tab Page Background Selection, New Tab Page Custom Links, New Tab Page Material Design Icons and New Tab Page Material Design UI.
- Click on the RELAUNCH NOW button to validate the changes.
- If you click on the + button, in the tabs area to display a new page, you will notice changes in the display with round icons and the possibility to add a new shortcut (click on the + button that follows the icons).
- You can especially change the background image of a new tab. To do this, click on the small gear icon at the bottom right of the window . Be careful because it is difficult to see.
- A menu appears to change the background, either by loading a personal image, or by choosing in the photo library of Chrome.
- Click on the image you want and validate with OK
You just have to appreciate the result.
