One of the things that is often doubted when choosing a mid-range phone is whether it includes a good quality screen. We have tested the one integrated in the TCL 20R 5G, and we tell you if it will convince you fully or if it has any problems when displaying images of the operating system or games. In what has to do with the specifications that has the panel IPS of the smartphone we are talking about, it must be said that it meets what can be demanded from a device that has a price that is around 179 euros. Thus, the dimensions of the screen are 6.52 inches with a ratio of 20:9… so it fits like a glove in what has to do with the consumption of multimedia content. In addition, it should be noted that the front utilization is good, since it exceeds 80% and that the touch response is quite convincing.
The resolution is HD, so we are not talking about a very advanced option here… but to enjoy the vast majority of what you can run for the Android operating system, you will not have any problem. It is true that this does not exceed 300 ppp in what has to do with pixel density, but when using the TCL 20R 5G we found that the definition is more than correct and that if you are not particularly demanding, complies without problems (and, although we do not talk about this, the indicated has as a positive that does not require much energetically speaking).
The best thing it has: the brightness
When we started testing the terminal, in a matter of minutes we realized that the best thing, without a doubt, that the screen offers is a brightness that exceeds expectations… and by far! In the measurements we performed in manual mode exceeding 400 nits is something that is achieved without much trouble and, by activating the automatic option, it reaches 475. Therefore, what it lacks by definition, it achieves for this reason, since an excellent intensity is achieved when viewing the screen of this phone. With a really good job at detecting the lighting conditions that exist in the place where you are (and run the appropriate actions to always see everything perfectly), also the contrast has seemed quite good. Here it is worth noting that with the games in the darkest areas always detect enemies. Therefore, the range is very positive and this also allows movies and videos to be fully enjoyed. Si te preguntas por la calidad de los colores, it must be said that this one is quite good, as there are no serious deviations towards the warm ones.. but they are somewhat cooler than we thought at first which made that in some moments the grays tended to green or white to a slightly blue tone. It is not serious, far from it, so it does not affect too much when displaying something on the screen of the TCL 20R 5G.
A frequency that is intelligent
We say this because the management to choose between 60 or 90 Hz, which is the maximum that allows the panel of the terminal of which we speak, allows this possibility. It is a figure that is not bad considering the price of the device and, indeed, is that when consuming some content or running some of the animations of the operating system itself everything works with excellent visual fluidity. The case is that you can set by software that the two parameters mentioned above, failing that, that intelligently, is the terminal itself which decides which is the best option. And contrary to what happens with other models in the same market segment, the performance is quite good, but should not expect crazy things . Let’s explain: it gets it right when it comes to setting the 90 Hz (and removing them), but since there are no intermediate steps, you can’t expect miracles either. The fact is that YouTube does maintain the 90 Hz in many cases, something that doesn’t happen with Netflix, for example. With games we found that the work is perfect and, the same happens, if the TCL 20R 5G is kept at rest (when this is detected it is lowered to 60 Hz, to achieve a more effective saving of the battery charge).
A software that delivers… and only that
We say this because you will find in the Display section of the Settings what you need to customize the operation of the panel quite precisely, but there is nothing that stands out especially among the options that are considered as additional. Among the basics are managing the operation of the top notch -something that gives the TCL 20R 5G an old-fashioned touch, it must be said- or being able to use a more than convincing Dark Mode that works perfectly. Anyway, there are some things that are, at least, curious. Here it is possible to emphasize the one that is denominated Reminder of distance. With it, it detects when you are looking at the screen at less than 25 centimeters so that you separate and that you do not have visual problems. A help, no doubt. Nor does it lack the ability to manage apps that work in full screen, which allows a pretty good customization.
It convinces more than disappoints
So this is what we have been clear about the screen of the TCL 20R 5G. Considering the product range to which it belongs and the price it has, the brightness it allows is very powerful which makes some of its shortcomings go unnoticed and you always have a feeling of intensity and good definition. In addition, the colors look like a thousand wonders despite not being a terminal compatible with HDR. It is a pity that the resolution is only HD, but the truth is that this does not tarnish the IPS panel of this phone is better than you might think at first. Therefore, it must be said that the work done convinces… but without becoming a terminal that is crazy for its screen. Therefore, do not fail to value the purchase of this phone if your budget fits what it costs, at least in image quality you’ll be quite satisfied.
