Offering more control and better privacy to its users, this is how WhatsApp presents its new feature currently being deployed among users.

The instant messaging application has indeed just announced the imminent arrival on iOS and Android of a new option that, when activated, allows to automatically delete all messages in a conversation beyond a certain duration. This new option is an extension of the ephemeral messages feature, natively applied to all conversations opened in the application.

You can thus configure the application so that your messages are automatically deleted after a period of 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. Here’s how to enable it.

1. Go to Settings

Open WhatsApp and enter the Settings of the application. Then go to the Account menu and go to the Privacy menu. This is where WhatsApp has decided to integrate its new default ephemeral messages option.

Then select how long you want the messages to be automatically deleted from new chats you create. You can choose between 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.

When you open a new conversation, WhatsApp should show you a notification that ephemeral messages have been activated. This alert is also displayed in a box at the top of the conversation
